Temples and Tragedy (10 hrs)

Religion pervades all aspects of traditional life on Bali. Ceremonies are the visible expression of Balinese faith. They range from family celebrations to the "Ceremony of the 11 Forces" to focus the destiny of Bali on one person and undertaken once a century. This ceremony led to tragedy when last celebrated in 1963. The cost 2,000 lives as the ceremony was interrupted by an eruption of Mount Agung. The highlight of the tour will be a specially negotiated visit to the mother temple, the site of the "Ceremony of the 11 Forces".
