Destination Details Klungkung

The oldest kingdom in Bali where the bloodline of the Balinese royalty is traced back to. It was the base of the ancient Javanese Hindu Kingdom and the seat of rule of Bali’s history.

Right in the centre of the town is the Royal Court of Justice or the famous Kertha Gosa, which was built, in the 18th century, one of Bali's masterpieces. It is said that Klungkung’s golden glory is captured in the floating pavilion, elaborate garden, and charming lotus ponds. Kertha Gosa is best known for its paintings on the ceiling that depicts life after death.

The museum right next to the Kertha Gosa exhibits weapons from the Colonial period, traditional tools, and utensils.  The museum is an excellent place to get a peek into the history of Klungkung.
